See AJ on The AOF Channel, Saturday, May 7 on NBC We all know that filmmaking is a business, as it should be. The cost of creating a feature, for example, poses a considerable risk for investors/studios. But something has been lost in recent films... the storytelling. Each year that passes, the gap between true filmmakers and director technicians widens significantly. As a filmmaker, I take pride in the projects I direct and feel a great sense of responsibility for the story. Of course just telling a great story is not enough in this market either. Understanding our rapidly evolving technological resources and striving for efficiency of production at every level is necessary to take any project to the next level of success. Digital technology has revolutionized moviemaking throughout my lifetime. From non-linear editing to image capture and visual effects, the way we make movies has been completely transformed. The tried-and-true methods, which worked in the late 70s and early 80s, brought a realism and tangibility to films that sparked the imagination of my generation. While those films may not have had the amazing technological support we now enjoy, the stories launched franchises, built enormous fan bases, created new markets... and sparked a creativity in me to make movies that reach people in that same magical/visceral way. Fusing those tried-and-true techniques of the past with the latest in digital effects helps me create a tangible world for a great adventure, allowing me to focus on telling a great story and taking the audience on a ride they will never forget. My training began even before college with my first project. I've had the privilege of working in front of the camera and over a decade of experience working as a Director, DP, Editor and Visual Effects Engineer. Understanding each of these areas of film-making gives me a distinct advantage in the director's chair. More than that, I work with a passionate, dedicated team of filmmakers that work cohesively to create amazing films. Currently creating a trilogy of sci-fi adventure films, I'm proud to announce JUNIOR CREW. The story was inspired by The Last Starfighter, Star Wars and Goonies. JUNIOR CREW is an epic journey of personal growth wrapped in an exciting coming-of-age adventure... Here's a teaser our team has created to help pitch the film. It was shot in two days with two weeks of post for $7k. I want to thank everyone involved for their amazing work! |
